App of the Week: Clockwork Tomato

IMGCAP(1)]Most apps don't require a long-time commitment, and depending on how you look at it, neither does time management app Clockwork Tomato. All it's asking for is a 25-minute slice of your life -- or the rest of it.

Based on the "Pomodoro Technique" of breaking work down into 25-minute periods of focus separated by short breaks, the app aims to make it easy for budding Pomodorists (Pomodorians?) to adopt the system by showing the user the current timer and the timer to come, letting them auto-chain timers, offering different ways of displaying the elapsed time, and letting the configure the timers, colors and elements display as they like. It also tracks statistics on achieved "pomodoros," and lets you share your history.

So if you're interested in trying out the technique, the app might be a good way to start -- but don't blame us if it becomes how you manage the rest of your life. And if you're already using it, this might be a very useful addition.

(And in case you're wondering, "pomodoro" is Italian for tomato, and the inventor of the technique used a tomato-shaped kitchen timer to set up his initial 25-minute periods.)
