App of the Week: LastPass

There are all kinds of ways to create strong passwords. (We even ran an article about one fairly easy method recently.) But if you're like most people -- if you're like us -- you're not likely to use them. And why should we, when there's LastPass?

Promising "the last password you have to remember," LastPass is downloaded to your computer, where it appears as an add-on to your browser. You set a strong password for LastPass -- and then it starts remembering all your logins and creating super-strong passwords for Web sites from then on, so that eventually you don't need to remember anything but your LastPass password. (Try not to forget that one, will you?)

You can also add multi-factor authentication for even more security, and access your LastPass account from multiple computers. For a modest fee ($12, when last we checked), you can get apps that let you use your LastPass on iPhones, iPads, and Android and Windows phones (and even BlackBerries -- remember those?), among other things. And there's also a LastPass Enterprise version to help businesses manage their password security risks.

So, now that you basically don't have to think about it at all, there's no excuse for bad password security.
