App of the Week: WiFi Finder

In a remarkably short period of time, WiFi has skyrocketed up the list of human needs to the point where it's on the verge of eclipsing clean water, shelter and a reliable food supply in importance -- at least for those among us who have become co-dependent on smart devices.

Those in that unfortunate position are forever seeking that elusive source of connectivity in coffee shops, libraries, airport lounges, waiting rooms, lobbies, and anywhere else the signal takes us. Fortunately, the WiFi Finder app for Apple and Android devices is coming to the rescue, making it quick and easy to locate thousands of free and paid WiFi spots wherever you happen to be.

It's a very straightforward app that lets you search for and get directions to the nearest source of WiFi. And before you say, "How can I search if I can't get WiFi?" note that the app also has a downloadable database of hundreds of thousands WiFi locations, so you can carry it with you and search offline -- but many users note that it's probably not a bad idea to use the app when you're in a spot with WiFi to look up locations in the spot you're going to be next.

It's also worth noting that the app doesn't provide information on signal strength, or reliability -- but it's a very handy way to get started.
