GRANT SELLS IT GROUP Grant Thornton has sold its Application Software Group, which sells Great Plains and Solomon software, to BroadPointe Technologies, a Bethesda, Md.-based reseller.

The Grant organization, based in Vienna, Va., employed 30 and had estimated revenue of $4 million annually, deriving much of its revenue from sales of the iMis association management software. BroadPointe says the addition of the organization will make it an $11 million company.
BTS NAMES DIRECTOR
Business Technology Solutions, a Raleigh, N.C.-based Best Software reseller, has named Jeffrey Odom as director of operations.
A CPA and certified business continuity planner, Odom becomes the first person to hold the job. BTS sells Best's accounting software line, including BusinessWorks, MAS 90/200, and MAS 500. The company employs 17 people.
ITA REVEALS RESULTS
The Information Technology Alliance has reported as part of its first-ever benchmarking study that 65 participating member firms have almost $250 million in revenue, including nearly $60 million in software sales.
The total translates into about $3.8 million in annual revenue per participant.
BROWN SMITH ADDS IT AUDITOR
Brown Smith & Wallace has added Chuck Chauvin, an IT auditor, to its staff as the St. Louis-based firm continues to ramp up its risk management services practice.
"We are doing a lot around IT audit," says Anthony Munns, the unit's leader. Hired as the first employee three years ago, Munns, a CISA from Arthur Andersen, says the group has grown to 16 and that he would immediately hire another three staffers if he could find qualified people.
CYMA WAIVES FEE
Cyma Systems has waived its $795 dealer fee in order to attract more resellers to its dealer program.
Vice president Steve Brueckner says that the company's release of job cost, inventory, and sales order modules over the last two years will help in recruiting. The company has also begun reaching out to larger CPA firms that have IT practices. The company also has a nonprofit line that "continues to be a good market for us," says Brueckner. "We are coming out with a grant tracking product in the fall."
ERG BUYS BURCH
Two Dallas-area Best Software resellers have combined with the purchase of Burch Consultants by ERG.
CPA Peyton Burch will become chief operating officer of ERG. ERG's CEO, Greg Boyd, said that the company, which will have two offices and employ 50, is expected to have more than $8 million in revenue this year. The company will likely expand, but not immediately. "We see this as being a foundational step and will be looking for other strategic relationships," said Boyd, who added, "We want to take a year to get this behind us."
BLYTHECO GETS BEST AWARD
Blytheco, a Best Software reseller based in Laguna Hills, Calif., has been named as Best's Authorized Training Center of Year.
The award is given to the center that has the highest customer score in training satisfaction during each calendar year. There are 45 Best training centers. Blytheco has also received the certified trainer award for training excellence in both 2003 and 2004. The award was first given in 2003.
ITG PICKS UP RICHARDS
The Information Technology Group of Encino, Calif., a Best Software and Great Plains reseller, has acquired Richards & Associates, a technology-oriented CPA firm based in Huntington Beach.
Founder Wendy Richards "has a great reputation for doing MAS 90," noted David Cieslak, a CPA and ITG principal. "We have crossed tracks with her very regularly." ITG had 42 employees and $3.8 million in revenue in 2004. Richards had 187 clients and revenue of $500,000 a year.
KINTERA HIRES CHANNEL EXECS
Kintera, which owns the FundWare Accounting line, has beefed up its staff with the addition of Steven Johnson as vice president of channel sales.
Johnson has worked in channel development for companies such as Salesforce.com, Accenture, and Microsoft Business Solutions. The company has also hired Jeff Olson as channel sales manager. Olson was formerly director of channel sales for B2PCommerce Corp.
