QUICKBOOKS 2008 The QuickBooks 2008 line concentrates on connecting with other applications and helping companies promote their businesses online.

QuickBooks Pro and Premier (including an industry-specific edition for accountants) now include a WebListings Service for businesses to appear on several search engines, including Google Maps, Yahoo Local, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions includes two add-on services: Velocity Inventory for inventory management, and True Commerce to set up and process electronic invoicing. QuickBooks Time Tracker Service transfers billable time from Outlook calendars and emails into the software, and QuickBooks Coach highlights the steps new users need to move beyond setup.

The Cell Explorer capability Adaptive Planning added to version 4.0 of its Express Edition allows users to analyze any cell within their financial software application by drilling down into he sequence of values and formulas used to calculate final results.

Express Edition is a free, downloadable entry-level application for small and midsize companies used for automated budgeting and forecasting. It is part of the vendor's global test-drive program, which includes free training via Webinars and videos.

A Retriever widget attaches to the native application, which monitors the user's navigation. Based on the information being viewed, Retriever can pull up associated files directly from CNG-SAFE without switching out of that native application. It also enforces security and controls access to documents based on user rights assigned within the organization. The Synchronization Add-on automatically updates or creates folders in CNG-SAFE as they are altered in the other application.

Technology Group International's ERP software, Enterprise 21 v 6.6, enhances functionality across accounting, manufacturing and distribution and gives users more individualized control over the application's look and feel.

Accounting highlights include increased flexibility in credit card processing and receivables posting, payables matching and multicurrency processing. Manufacturing changes include increased flexibility in forecasting and long-term planning and more robust labor reporting. Distribution addresses lead time-based customer pricing, core processing and yard management. Other updates include user-defined sorting and filters, improved Help and FAQs and online video-based tutorials.

Accounting firms can now access an ASP version of CCH's Prosystem fx Document, in which files from the firm are hosted by CCH.

The ASP version provides secure document transfer and storage and allows users to access their files from anywhere with an Internet connection. Users can customize the home page to reflect their preferences and job requirements. It also facilitates Sarbanes-Oxley regulations by managing retention periods and maintaining an audit trail.

Version 8 of Sage BusinessWorks 50 Accounting offers drill-down screens for customer purchase order information, invoice adjustments, unpaid balances and payments received.

The Cash Account Register Report, a reconciliation tool, displays details of all transactions that impact a cash account. Up to three sales tax IDs can be assigned to each customer's Ship-To address and closed invoices can be reprinted from the Order Entry Invoice Inquiry option. Users with ideas for future enhancements can make suggestions within the software itself using the Submit Enhancement Suggestions link.

CCH has created CorpSystem, a brand of software and workflow applications, specifically for tax and accounting corporate professionals.

The suite provides sales and use tax software that is integrated with the corporate tax department's daily workflow. An expansion of CCH's products and services, CorpSystem will include tax rate research, end-of-month liability determination and returns preparation, remittance and e-filing. Centage Corp. has introduced a Business Performance Management Suite with the Budget Maestro Dashboard Kit, designed for small and midsize businesses to manage their budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting data.

The Excel 2007 dashboard templates come with pre-defined key performance indicators, such as gross margin, net income, working capital and inventory turnover. Users can create comparisons of actual performance to plan or forecast, on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis and across any number of categories such as product lines, divisions, locations or projects. Dashboard information can be incorporated into Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and published to an intranet.

Abbyy FineReader 9.0 transforms document images and PDF files into editable and searchable electronic files.

The optical character recognition technology can convert tables, spreadsheets, magazine articles or faxes. Its Adaptive Document Recognition Technology can identify how certain formatting elements should be treated when sending to Microsoft Word and Excel, retaining the headers, footers, page numbers, footnotes, fonts and styles. Table layouts can be recognized with or without cell divisions and FineReader supports 179 languages.

Epicor Tax Connect is an on-demand sales tax management service for use with Epicor Software's Vantage manufacturing application.

Expanded supply chain functionality includes enhanced support for international and export shipments throughout the order-to-pack and manifest shipping process. A phantom pack feature allows for packing multiple cases on one order. Global Finite Scheduling now offers real-time assessments of present and short-term plant or warehouse capacity. Epicor Vantage also provides improved visibility into material needs, letting users view material constraints with links to information such as purchase order, job and lead time.

Universal Business Computing Company brings new components to eCabinet, including the ability to store PDF files on any drive independent from where UBCC's payroll and write-up software resides.

UBCC clients also can create PDF files whenever they print, with the software automatically populating any document management system they have.
