ADVISORY BOARD NAMED Sage Software has named 30 members to a newly formed Accountants' Advisory Board as part of the Sage Software Accountants' Network. The company said the move is aimed at better serving the CPA community.

The members were selected from the Accountants' Network membership to serve for one-year terms. Selection was based on their experience with small to midsize business clients. Members of the network get access to Sage products, including accounting software, support services and upgrades and updates. The program is under the direction of Heather Scarpero, who took over from Geni Whitehouse this year.

Faye, Pollack & Associates, a MAS 90 and 200 software reseller, has acquired Database-LA, an Act consulting firm that is active in Southern California.

The deal will add about 200 clients to Encino, Calif.-based Faye, Pollack, and will expand its product line offerings into the CRM market. With a reported $4.2 million in revenue and 32 employees at the end of 2006, Faye, Pollack was No. 82 on the Accounting Technology VAR 100 list for 2007.


Columbus IT Partner, a Danish Microsoft reseller, said results for its struggling American operations turned around in the first half ended June 30.

The company reported EBITDA of about $1.7 million for its American subsidiaries with revenue of $12.6 million. Year ago details were not published. However, in reporting last year's first half, Columbus IT said it had an 85 percent drop in EBITDA and no revenue growth from the American operations. Worldwide the reseller had net income of $1.1 million for the half ended June 30, a swing from a loss of $1.2 million a year earlier. Revenue for the half just needed was $136 million, up from $66.3 million a year earlier.


Watkins, Meegan and Drury, a Bethesda, Md.-based CPA firm, has formed W.J. Technologies to handle Deltek's project software line.

The new group will sell Deltek's GCS Premier, Time & Expense and Enterprise Project Management into the government contracting industry. Two other firms have joined the recently formed CPA Accountant network, Aronson & Co. and Cherry, Bekaert & Holland.


Trey Resources, which owns Sage reseller SWK Technologies, reported a loss of $716,666 for the quarter end June 30, up from $638,899 in last year's corresponding period.

Revenue for the most recently ended quarter was $18 million, up from $1.57 million a year earlier. While the second-quarter operating loss dropped to $432,009, from $573,966 from a year earlier, the net loss increased become $43,443 from the gain revaluation of derivatives was down from $123,706 from the same source in last year's second quarter.


Adnet Technologies, which resells a variety of accounting packages, has acquired Vested Technologies, based in Rocky Hill, Conn.

Adnet, based in Windsor, Conn., will use the acquisition to expand its services to law firms in Connecticut, says CEO Ed Laprade. Adnet resells Exact Macola, Microsoft Dynamics SL and SAP Business One financial software.


Microsoft has select John O'Donnell of Crowe, Chizek and company as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for his worth with Dynamics CRM, the fourth straight year he has received the designation.

In 2004, he was one of the first two professionals in the world to receive an MVP for a Dynamics product and is one of 21 worldwide to receive it for Dynamics CRM. O'Donnell, based in Chicago, regularly publishes articles for the CRM Product Team Web site, and for other community Web sites and news groups.


A survey of 1,400 CIOs shows executives believe their IT staffs are 40 percent smaller than the optimal size.

Robert Half Technology, which surveys executives from companies with 100 or more employees, found the ideal ratio of endusers to technicians is 82 to 1, but the actual average is 136 to 1.
