DMS FOR QUICKBOOKS Intuit’s Document Management System for QuickBooks, which converts paper documents to an electronic format, features a Setup Wizard that helps users establish an organizational system that mirrors how they store and access paper documents.

QuickBooks Customer, Vendor and Employee lists can be imported and the user can set up default folders that are applied to all lists. Security features include password-protected folders, database and emailed documents, limiting access to senders and recipients.

Timeslips by Sage 2009 provides service-based professionals additional ways to streamline billing and payment processing and includes tools that allow businesses to create formulas similar to those in Excel in their self-designed reports.

The Billing Assistant’s customized buttons activate user-defined billing procedures to reduce the number of steps required to complete routine tasks. The Timekeeper Contributions and Collections report tracks work in process, billed time, paid bills and write-offs for each timekeeper and allows for deeper reviews with detailed drill-downs to the client level. Users can opt to auto-fill transactions with a client’s current balance or hide inactive references.

Morningstar’s Web-based Advisor Workstation Office Edition now incorporates Ibbotson Associate’s capital market assumptions and wealth forecasting and portfolio construction engines. Advisors can use the Ibbotson inputs or incorporate their own assumptions.

Users can forecast clients’ current and model investment portfolios, taking into account tax changes, retirement account required minimum distributions and early withdrawal penalties. They also can forecast portfolios with multiple investment goals such as college education, home purchases and retirement.

SAGE MAS 90 AND 200 4.3

Version 4.3 of Sage MAS 90 and 200 offers paperless office capabilities, including document imaging and storage as well as email and e-fax functionality.

Business Insights Explorer, business intelligence, workflow and reporting tools, can drill down on data about customers, purchasing trends and operational issues. BIE includes 75 pre-designed views plus customization options to help users conduct analysis and create graphical charts.

CCH’s Accounting Research Manager contains The IFRS Manual of Accounting add-on module from PricewaterhouseCoopers, which publishes instruction on preparing financial statements in accordance with Internal Financial Reporting Standards.

The manual explains the requirements for interim reports and preliminary announcements and contains model IFRS statements to help illustrate the explanations and show how calculations and disclosures should be made. It is updated four times a year.

The update of MYOB’s AccountEdge Network Edition for Mac speeds up the recording of transactions when multiple users are in the same file simultaneously. Some beta testers reported a 30 percent faster closing time than with previous versions.

The Reminder Log displays all reminders for a selected contact or reminders that do not have a contact associated with them, such as notes to follow up on invoice payments or to make sales calls. A new search tool lets users search by field, including first name, last name/company name, phone number and email.

Dashboard Kit 2.0, contained in Budget Maestro 5.9, helps companies manage their performance against established goals.

Graphical reports come out of the box for income statements by product lines, divisions or locations as well as balance sheet and cash flow key performance indicators to identify trends and spot problems. Dashboard templates include monthly, year-to-date, quarterly, sannual and percentage of sales. Budget Maestro, by Centage, now extends its support for the Microsoft Windows Operating System, and SQL Server 2005 database.

Cabinet NG Retriever, an add-on for the company’s document management software, can access documents and perform document management functions from within virtually any Windows-based program.

Also new is Cabinet NG Synchronize, which automatically creates and updates folders in CNG-SAFE as they appear in the target applications database. This ensures that any changes such as the addition of new contacts, telephone numbers and addresses in the top-level application are correctly and automatically propagated to CNG-SAFE.

Palo 2.5 allows companies to centralize data in Excel spreadsheets. It is a multi-user open-source data server application that allows workers to access, change and collaborate on multiple spreadsheets in real time.

Palo 2.5, by Jedox, eases ABC Analysis, a technique for discriminating influence of certain inventory classes on operating costs. Its Multidimensional Online Analytical Processing engine has been optimized to use more sophisticated processing algorithms to speed read and write-back tasks. Users now also can suppress the zeros in empty cells when preparing reports.

Red Wing’s TurningPoint How2 Viewer simplifies the way customers can access help from the software vendor.

It contains a set of support documents organized by module and subject as well as an online version of printed product manuals, product demonstrations viewable by module and migration instructions accessible for free at Red Wing’s Web site.

Taxcient, which provides online sales and use tax compliance tools, has launched vCERT, which connects tax departments to retail stores so that retailers can locate, collect and renew customers’ exemption certificates while the customers are in the store or update new ones at the time of sale.

The Web-based system digitally stores the certificates in an electronic database. The Renewal tool allows users to flag and automatically send requests for expired and rejected certificates.

Epicor Software has collaborated with IBM to deliver an integrated retail system management product for specialty and department store retailers, to centrally manage and support point-of-sale hardware and software via IBM’s Remote Management Agent.

The combined system lets companies remotely monitor, configure and track hardware, software and applications in one store or multiple locations from a central point.

Version 7.2 of Sage MAS 500 ERP introduces the Business Insights Dashboard and the Data Import Manager, both .Net modules.

The dashboard is a browser-based tool that gives single-click access to analytical and collaborative tools, enabling users to create a personalized view of up-to-date sales statistics, key financial data, business metrics and competitive intelligence. The Data Import Manager uses a mapping wizard to preserve data integrity while companies import transactions from external systems in the ERP application.
