AVALARA PLOTS CPA OFFERINGS

Avalara, which markets Internet-based sales and use tax applications, has formulated a Professional Accountants Network which will offer accounting professionals a package of applications and services.

Marshal Kushniruk, EVP for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based company, said that members will receive Avalara software for use and for resale. However, he expects most accounting firms would prefer clients who are referred to Avalara receive discounts rather than have the firms sell the software themselves.

CROWE'S JUDAY AN MVP

Jeff Juday, who works in the Enterprise Solutions practice of Crowe Horwath's South Bend, Ind., office, has been named as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional.

It was the third consecutive year that Juday received the honor. This year, he was recognized for his services to clients in the implementation of BizTalk technical applications. He has also contributed articles to technology industry publications.

VISION33 BUYS OMEGA

Vision33, which is based in Irvine, Calif., has acquired Omega Business Solutions of Portland, Ore. Both companies resell SAP's Business One application.

Omega, one of the first VARs to pick up the SAP product, had revenue of about $3 million in 2006. Vision33 was the SAP Partner of the Year for 2007 and also has offices in St. John's, Canada. It is keeping Omega's offices in Portland and Seattle.

MICROSOFT READIES PARTNER PROGRAM

Microsoft will roll out a company-wide new partner program this summer as the company shifts its emphasis to rewarding VARs who generate the most business, said Jeff Edwards, director of channel strategy.

Edwards also said the company plans a new certification program to replace the one under which top dealers achieve the Microsoft Gold level. So many Gold VARs have been named that the designation "has been degraded somewhat," he said.

COLUMBUS IT ADJUSTS OUTLOOK

Columbus IT Partner, a Microsoft Dynamics reseller based in Copenhagen, has adjusted downward the revenue EBIDTA it expected to report for the year ended Dec . 31.

The company expected to report revenue of about $170.5 million for 2008, down from roughly $172.2 million given in its original guidance. The predicted EBIDTA of about $10.3 million to $10.5 million was at the bottom of the original range.

CFOS TURN TO U.S.

The most popular country for American businesses to outsource technology operations for 2009 is the United States, according to the BDO Seidman 2009 Technology Outlook Survey.

The survey of CFOs found that 22 percent of respondents listed the United States as the top country for outsourcing, followed by 16 percent for China and 13 percent for India.

TIMBERLINE VARS MERGE

Alliance Solutions Group of Brandon, Fla., and Idysys, which both resell Sage's Timberline construction software, have merged.

The companies will operate under the name Alliance Solutions Group. Idysys partner Dave Diemer will be director of client services for the combined companies.

CONSULTANT WRITES DYNAMICS GP BOOK

Renato Bellu, a manager and senior consultant for RSM McGladrey's technology business solutions practice, has authored a book, "Microsoft Dynamics GP for Dummies."

The firm said the book by the Moorestown, N.J.-based consultant was the first of its kind for Dynamics GP users. Bellu joined RSM McGladrey in July 2007 and he has more than 15 years of experience.

PARTNER SUMMITS OPEN

A second year of Partner Summits has been planned by the tax and accounting business of Thomson Reuters.

Scheduled for Boston, Minneapolis, San Diego and Seattle, the sessions in each city will be limited to about 40 partners, says Teresa Mackintosh, VP of strategic marketing for Thomson's CS Professional Suite.

"It's not staff training," said Mackintosh, who said the sessions are designed to help partners to think about how they run their firms.
