VSCPA Leaders’ Institute Accepting Nominations

By Liz Gold
February 25, 2010

From now until March 19, Virginia college students can either nominate themselves or be nominated for the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Leaders’ Institute taking place in June.

The Institute is a three-day all-expenses paid leadership program developed by Baker Tilly (they are the founding sponsor) and the VSCPA Educational Foundation, an organization that works to attract bright students into the CPA profession.

It’s the Institute’s intent to bridge the gap between “student” and “young professional” and to develop the future leaders of the CPA profession.

During the event, which is being held June 25-27 at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, students will work on their interviewing, leadership and team building skills, while also learning more about everybody’s favorite topic – business etiquette.

They’ll also be information about how to choose the right employer, surviving the CPA Exam and managing personal finances. And, of course, there will be networking galore.

In addition, participants will also be able to take part in the Recruiter in Residence program, an optional, one-on-one 30-minute session with a potential employer who will conduct an informational interview, review a resume, conduct a mock interview or just answer general career questions.

It’s too late for sponsorships, but not to nominate, so get to it! For more information on how to do that, go here.
