Forty-seven minority accounting doctoral students are on the receiving end of $470,000 in scholarships from the KPMG Foundation for the 2010-2011 academic year. Of those 47, 12 new recipients have been named and 35 existing awards have been renewed.
Each scholarship is valued at $10,000 and renewable for up to five years. The KPMG Foundation has awarded these scholarships since 1994, providing funds to 288 African American, Hispanic and Native American scholars pursuing doctorate degrees as part of its ongoing commitment to increase minority representation in business schools.
Over the years it has been a pleasure to see the impact the recipients of these scholarships have had on improving diversity in business schools and we look forward to the accomplishments of these individuals, said Bernie Milano, KPMG Foundation president.

It is great to see there is a proactive effort being made to diversify the accounting and business world. Not too long ago I read a blog discussing the lack of representation of minorities in accounting professions. Hopefully opportunities such as these will generate greater interest and awareness of the accounting world to all students.
