Five accomplishment statements for your accounting resume

Are you struggling with your resume? Is it hard to remember what you have accomplished? Here are five basic, highly valued types of accomplishment statements for accounting resumes:

Timely, accurate information

Examples:

Accelerated the month-end closing process to the tenth calendar day of every month. Provide timely and accurate financial reports on operating entities and capital projects. Corporate Controller

Initiated an income and expense flux analysis for the first working day of the month that provides for early identification and correction of posting errors. Efforts contributed to accelerating the month-end close to the tenth calendar day of every month. Senior Staff Accountant

Internal controls

Examples:

Developed financial controls that successfully scaled as the company grew from $10 million to $25 million of revenue per year. No material weaknesses noted by auditors during that period. Corporate Controller

Noticed a weakness in a client’s wire transfer controls that made a significant theft of funds possible. Recommended a change that was adopted immediately. Staff Auditor

Ability to use systems productively

Examples:

Met with individual department heads to understand how they wanted to receive their budget to actual information and defined reports that met their needs. Resulted in increased use of reports and quicker decision maker attention to variances. Budget Director

Set up budget to actual reports as specifically requested by department heads. Resulted in increased use of reports and quicker decision-maker attention to variances. Budget Analyst

Works well with others

Examples:

Built relationships within the Firm, both domestically and internationally, to have the resources necessary to meet clients’ informational needs in less than 24 hours. Big Four Audit Manager

Assigned to work with Purchasing as their single point of contact with Accounting. Automated preparation of three “shadow system” reports that had previously required 10 hours of staff time per week. Staff Accountant

Technical & business expertise

Examples:

CPA. Any Career Level

MBA. Any Career Level
