The American Institute of CPAs awarded the AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students to 78 students from 36 states for the 2011-12 academic year.

The awardees were narrowed down from 272 eligible applicants and include students in undergraduate and graduate level accounting programs that have maintained a minimum 3.3 grade point average and plan on pursuing CPA licensure.

Texas students represented the largest number of minority scholarship recipients this year, with 11, while 10 recipients hail from North Carolina and five from Georgia.

The AICPA Foundation provides the scholarship funding with contributions from the Accounting Education Foundation of the Texas Society of CPAs, the New Jersey Society of CPAs and Robert Half International. The individual awards range from $1,500 to $3,000.
