Greensboro, N.C., accounting firm Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co. took a big dive for charity Feb. 23, participating in its 13th Polar Plunge for Special Olympics North Carolina.

The event, organized by the Guilford County Sherriff’s Department, was held at Wet N’ Wild Emerald Point and raised more than $38,000. DMJ received “Most Money Earned” honors, having raised more than $13,000 to celebrate its 13th year of involvement.

“Team DMJ” was one of dozens of participating teams from the Piedmont Triad community, and plunged into the cold water holding briefcases.

Managing partner Mike Gillis, the first “plunger” in 2000, and partner Dana Beeson, who has volunteered with the Special Olympics as coach and mentor and was honored with the Presidential Service Award for her work, led a Team DMJ roster that included: Sheryl Austin, Stacy West, Jonathan Peddrick, Laura Hartley, Theresa Stover, Erin Popowitch, Bill Jones, Mandi Limmage, Brenda Lackey and Caren Rodriguez.

Since its inaugural Polar Plunge in 2000, DMJ has raised more than $90,000 for Special Olympics North Carolina, which represents more than 38,000 athletes and supporters, providing year-round sports training and competitive events for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
