Kansas Governor Sam Brownback declared Thursday, Jan. 17, Certified Public Accountant Education Day in honor of the Kansas Society of CPAs’ Educational Foundation’s 50th Anniversary.

The KSCPA Education Foundation celebrated the occasion at the Statehouse by presenting a $300,000 contribution to the University of Kansas for the endowment of an accounting doctoral scholar.

Named the “Kansas Society of CPAs, T.C. & Trella Anderson, James T. & Mary Ann Clark Accounting Doctoral Scholar,” the contribution is in honor of former KSCPA executive director T.C. Anderson, whose retirement prompted the contributions that began the endowment.

Past KSCPA president James T. Clark contributed over $17,000 from proceeds from his ethics course. Proceeds from the sale of the former KSPCA office and member contributions make up the rest of the endowment.

Following the scholarship presentation, the KSCPA wrapped up CPA Day with its fifth annual legislative reception, hosted by the leadership group at the Upstate Gallery, which facilitates networking between CPAs and legislators. Scheduled speakers included: Secretary Nick Jordan, Kansas Department of Revenue; Steve Anderson, Kansas Budget Director; Bill Roe, District Coordinator for Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, and Tammy Velasquez, Director of State Relations/Public Policy, Ernst & Young LLP, Washington D.C.
