Henry & Horne PLC, Tempe, announced the election of Mark F. Eberle to the position of managing director. Eberle succeeds Wendell Jones who has served as managing director since June of 1998. Jones will continue to sit on the firm’s executive committee and serve as director-in-charge of the Tempe office. Eberle joined the firm in 1972 and became a partner in 1979. In addition to serving clients, Eberle will be responsible for managing the growth of Henry & Horne and overseeing the operations of the firm. Also at Henry & Horne, Wendell G. Peters was named director. Peters has been a member of Henry & Horne’s tax department since 1997, providing tax and business advisory services to clients in the automotive, manufacturing, retail, restaurant and service industries.

Barron, Yanaros & Caruso PC, Wethersfield, announced the promotion of Anthony Pizzorusso to senior accountant. ... John D. Lanza, a manager at Kostin, Ruffkess & Co. LLC out of the New London office, has been selected to serve on the governmental accounting standards board task force on economic condition reporting. The task force consists of 12 members who have varied uses of financial statements. The participants represent different fields - the investment community, public servants, some politicians and those in all phases of governmental accounting. The task force will meet in New York City in August and plans include periodic meetings over a three- to five-year period. Recommendations of the task force will be made to the governmental accounting standards board. The task force will assess how well the governmental financial reporting model meets the needs of users when assessing a governmental entity’s financial position. ... Clifford A. Rankin and Kelley M. McIntyre, members of Harper & Whitfield PC, Farmington, have successfully completed the education and experience requirements to earn the designation of certified valuation analysts as announced by the National Association of CVAs.

J. Edward Grossman, shareholder, chief professional standards officer and chief financial officer of Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson PA CPAs, Lakeland, has been appointed to serve on the 2002-2003 peer review acceptance committee of the Florida Institute of CPAs. Grossman has been in the public accounting field for over 19 years. He is a member and has served on various committees of the American Institute of CPAs and the FICPA. He is also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Institute of Management Accountants. Grossman also sits on the Editorial Advisory Board of the national magazine, CPA Software News. ... Presser, Lahnen & Edelman CPAs, Jacksonville, announced that Ashley M. Shaddock has joined the firm as marketing manager. Her responsibilities include management of the marketing, public relations and recruiting functions. Shaddock has more than six years’ experience in professional services marketing. ... Also at Presser, Lahnen & Edelman, John T. Moss has been awarded the personal financial specialist designation by the AICPA. The PFS designation, establishd in 1987 by the AICPA, recognizes CPAs with considerable professional experience in financial planning. Moss met the requirements to earn the designation, including passing a technical exam covering personal financial planning topics. In addition, Moss completed over 1,000 hours of business experience during the past five years and over 75 hours of life-long learning activities. CPAs who have earned the PFS designation must be re-accredited every three years to maintain the credential.
