WORKING MOTHER NAMES SIX FIRMS AS BEST TO WORK FOR

Six accounting firms were named among Working Mother Magazine's Best Companies to Work For list, a compilation that recognizes family-friendly and flexible work environments.

Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton and RSM McGladrey were all named to the list, which was organized alphabetically.

Deloitte was singled out for its lattice structure of firm advancement; E&Y boasts more women who are promoted to partner than the other Big Four firms; KPMG seeks ways to increase its employees' personal freedom; PwC held traveling workshops that got women and their managers talking about the challenges of balancing home and work; Grant Thornton offers up to seven months of parental leave (up from four last year); and RSM McGladrey offers a free work/life coach to employees to help resolve financial, family and workplace issues.

BDO SEIDMAN GOES GREEN WITH TAX SERVICES

The Grand Rapids office of BDO Seidman has teamed with a local civil engineering firm to help clients identify the tax benefits that can result from environmental efforts. The collaboration between BDO and Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber Inc. will offer businesses a consulting service focused on a number of key areas, including state and local tax incentives, cost segregation and R&D tax credits.

Working with FTC&H, BDO Grand Rapids will provide a range of energy-related tax and consulting services, including identifying, negotiating and securing energy tax incentives, obtaining the necessary technical and engineering certifications, achieving LEED certification, and identifying and supporting R&D tax credits for federal and state investments.

As an extension of its collaboration with BDO Grand Rapids, FTC&H has become a member of BDO Seidman's nationwide Business Resource Network, which provides specialized services across all 37 of its U.S. offices.
