PwC Gets xTREME

PriceWaterhouseCoopers is in the midst of their annual xTREME Games – a competition that enables undergrads at universities across the country to experience and solve real-life business challenges. Winners of the game earn school bragging rights and can rake up prize money, all in the name of sharpening skills valuable to success.

It’s the 8th annual xTREME games, so PwC has been at this before, giving away approximately $1.5 million in total prize money since the beginning. This is part of their commitment to corporate responsibility and youth education.

Last week it all began at the University of Alabama, where students competed in events called “xTax” short for “Extreme Tax” and “xACT,” short for, you guessed it, “Extreme Accounting.” Both challenge undergrads to solve cases designed to expose them to real tax and accounting scenarios, including policy and planning issues. This will continue over the next five weeks, as hundreds of the best and brightest accounting students representing nearly 80 schools all over the country will compete in five-person teams for the right to represent their schools at the national finals in January.

Are you part of an xTREME team? If so, tell us about your experience.
