No Tomatoes for these Accountants

The search for the South’s Funniest Accountant has ended and Gilbert Lawand, a former Ernst & Young manager and self-employed CPA, has taken home the title.

Lawand was named last night during the 5th Annual Search for the South’s Funniest Accountant in Atlanta, sponsored by Accountants One, an accounting and financial recruitment firm, and Sage Accountants Network. He was one of eight contestants chosen by judges in a September competition who then participated in a “comedy boot camp” on Oct. 17 to hone their routines.

As winner, Lawand won an all-expenses paid trip for two to Las Vegas.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Junior Achievement of Georgia, which partners with businesses and educators to bring the real world to students.

“This is a fun event,” said Jennifer Warawa, director of Sage Accountants Network. “As an accountant myself, I know the asset value of a good sense of humor and a pocket protector. Sage Accountants Network is happy to be a sponsor of this year’s search for the South’s Funniest Accountant, and working to change the perception that accountants are humorless number crunchers. Sage knows that accountants are funny, too!”
