The Intern Experience

Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of an intern? Wonder no more. Two brave souls from New Jersey-based WithumSmith+Brown share their reflections of being a rookie not only in their accounting firm, but in the professional working world, as well.

Jack Mans and Christina Freeland are staff level accountants who write about their experience getting through their first tax season and what it’s like stepping out of the college classroom and into the office.

“College is a place where students put their feet in the water, whereas an internship is a jump into the shallow end of the pool,” they write. “Our internships allowed us to see some of the many different avenues of the accounting field. In less than three months, we gained real-world accounting experience and felt prepared to leave our safe havens known as college. At the end of our internships, we felt ready to swim into the deep end of the pool.”
