Trained volunteers from the University of Central Missouris Beta Alpha Psi organization will provide tax help to people who cannot afford to file their own tax returns.
Through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), students within the Universitys honorary organization of accounting majors will help those with low-to-moderate income (or, those who make generally $49,000 or below). They will help with special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled.
In addition, the students will also help with free electronic filing.
Those interested in this free service need to bring along the following:
Social Security numbers for all taxpayers and dependents
Photo ID
W-2s, 1099s, educational fees paid to UCM
Bank routing number as well as your account number
2008 income tax return
The tax service is available Wednesdays through April 14, 2 to 5 p.m., and Thursdays through April 15, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the Ward Edwards Building on the UCM campus, second floor, Room 2810.
