MSU Accounting Students Spend Week in Alaska

Four accounting majors from Montana spent their spring break in remote Alaskan villages preparing tax returns for residents.

The students – Jennifer Larson, Bryan Jackson, Caitlyn Deen and Wasawat Tuntiprapha – are all College of Business accounting majors at Montana State University who spent a week in Alaska as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Program, which the IRS established to help people who find it difficult to pay for tax preparation services.

The College of Business paid $600 toward each of the student’s airfare to Anchorage, with the students responsible for the difference – about $100 to $200. All other trip expenses will be paid by the Alaska Business Development Center, or ABDC, a non-profit organization that sponsors the trip and takes care of logistical arrangements.
