Feeding the Accounting Doctoral Fire

They certainly aren’t the only firm who has donated money to the Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program, but Crowe Horwath has contributed $81,250 of its total commitment of $325,000.

Administered by the AICPA Foundation, the program has the support of more than 70 accounting firms, as well as, various state CPA societies to donate $16.8 million in an effort to help increase the number of accountants teaching at U.S. colleges and universities.

The money funds up to 30 new candidates each year for four years for a total of 120 newly trained Ph.Ds in audit and tax.

Crowe Horwath has also committed to recruiting candidates from its own ranks to apply to the program and pursue an academic career.

Those applicants interested in participating in the program must have recent and proven performance in audit and tax in a public accounting firm. Potential candidates must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents committed to a career as an accounting faculty member at an accredited U.S. college or university.

Eligible applicants will receive an invitation to a day-long conference to learn more about accounting doctoral scholars, receive guidance on preparing for and applying to a university Ph.D. program and gain insight into the life of an accounting faculty member. Once they enroll in a doctoral program at a participating university, the scholars will each receive an annual stipend of $30,000 for a maximum of four years.
