Its easy to get carried away on junk food and pizza during tax season, but Bond Beebe has found a way to encourage its employees to stay healthy by holding a weight loss challenge.
The Bethesda, Md.-based firm holds the competition every year from Jan. 1 to April 15. This year, 12 women and 10 men participated. They were placed on same sex teams to see who could lose the most weight by the end of tax season.
At the beginning of the week, each participant weighed in and reported their weight to their respective team captain. Many people used the Weight Watchers point system, while others did it by counting calories. Bond Beebe provided a free gym membership at the nearby Bethesda Sport & Health Club.
At the end of the challenge, the teams lost a grand total of 514.6 pounds combined, with the men edging out the women with a total of 294.8 pounds or 12.71 percent of their body weight. The women lost a total of 219.8 pounds or 12.28 percent of their body weight.
The biggest losers of the competition were Scott Price (who lost 42.5 pounds) and Jacqueline Thompson (who lost 32.9 pounds).
As an incentive, a bet was wagered between the two teams. If the women won, the men would have to take them to Ruths Chris Steakhouse; if the men won, the women would have to cook them dinner.
The men, apparently, are still waiting for their home-cooked meal!
