Virginia Society of CPAs recognizes its rising stars

May 28, 2010

Five stellar young professionals were recognized by the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants at the VSCPA’s annual meeting on May 14 through their new award Top 5 Under 35.

In its inaugural year, the award generated a lot of buzz and members of the volunteer selection panel said they were “overwhelmed with the amount of highly qualified, impressive nominees.”

The nominees excelled in one or more of the following categories: professional achievement, VSCPA or the local VSCPA chapter accomplishment, community contribution or dedication to the CPA profession.

“I am so proud of all these young leaders,” said Bradford Jones CPA and chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. “Considering all that they’ve accomplished before the age of 35, just imagine what they will contribute to the profession in the next few decades. This is the next wave of top leaders.”

And so, here is the list of those rising stars:

Alan Hostetler, CPA, is an auditor with Thomas C. Stott, CPA, PC, in Charlottesville. Currently serving as president of the VSCPA Thomas Jefferson Chapter, Hostetler began his first term on the board of his local chapter in 2006. Losi also speaks regularly about 20 times a year and teaches international accounting at the Executive MBA program at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a 1997 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Andrew Martin, CPA, is a vice president/manager with Corbin & Company, PC, in Chesapeake, where he has worked nearly six years, specializing in attestation engagements, tax preparation, business and tax consulting, and litigation support engagements. He began supporting the profession locally by joining the board of the VSCPA Tidewater Chapter in 2005, eventually serving as president in 2008–2009. He currently serves on the VSCPA Educational Foundation Board of Directors. A 2001 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Martin has been selected as a Virginia Business Super CPA from 2005 through 2009.
