Ascend offers scholarships for business students

Ascend, anorganization dedicated to enhancing the presence and influence of current andfuture business leaders of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, has announcedfive scholarships for college students engaged in business-related studies.

Theawards, which range from $2,000 to $5,000 each, are being offered by sponsorsCargill, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, ING and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Scholarshipwinners will be recognized at a special luncheon sponsored by Ernst & Youngon Sunday Aug. 15 at Ascend’s Third Annual National Convention here in New York City .

Eligibility and applicationrequirements vary for the different scholarships, but all require applicants tobe active members of Ascend who plan to attend the convention. (Winners alsoreceive a free three-day convention pass worth $150). Applicants must writeessays and furnish additional materials as described in the applications onAscends website.

Winnerswill be announced in late July.

Thedeadlines (the date by which applications must be postmarked or emailed) are asfollows:

June 18(yikes, that’s tomorrow!) – PricewaterhouseCoopers is offering three $3,000scholarships to a student or students majoring in accounting.

July 1 –Cargill is offering two $2,000 scholarships to students in finance, accounting,or business-related studies. ING is offering two $2,500 scholarships to localcollege students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate accountancy, finance,taxation, management-information systems or business-related programs.

July 14 –Ernst & Young is offering four $5,000 scholarships to accounting majors.Deloitte is offering a $3,000 scholarship to a top student or students showingacademic and career interest in accounting.
