CPA Foundation offers accounting scholarships to college students

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation offers two new scholarships for undergraduates planning to pursue careers in public accounting.
The Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes business and accounting education, is currently accepting scholarship applications from Virginia college and university students for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Undergraduates can apply to The F. Wilson Accounting Scholarship, a $2,500 award that will be given to an individual who plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting or the Murray, Jonson, White & Associates Annual Scholarship, an award open to junior or seniors currently enrolled at an accredited Virginia college or university, whose permanent residence is in Northern Virginia and who plans to pursue a career in public accounting. This is also a $2,500 scholarship.

To qualify for an undergraduate scholarship, applicants must have completed a minimum of three hours of accounting coursework, be enrolled in an accredited Virginia college or university, be enrolled in three additional accounting credit hours and have an accounting GPA of 3.0.

Graduate scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted in a graduate accounting program at an accredited Virginia college or university. Other selection criteria for the awards include overall academic performance, entry essay, faculty recommendation(s) and community and/or extracurricular activities.

The VSCPA Doctoral Accounting Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship awarded annually to a graduate student who is enrolled in an accredited Virginia college or university, pursuing a Ph.D. in accounting and who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need.

This year, the Foundation awarded nearly $30,000 in undergraduate, minority and graduate scholarships.
