CPAs on Tour: Accounting Preservation Society

[IMGCAP(1)]Location: Yosemite National Park, California

Yosemite National Park is a United States National Park spanning eastern portions of TuolumneMariposa and Madera counties in the central eastern portion of California. Managed by the National Park Service, Yosemite covers an area of 761,268 acres and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountain chain. More than 3.7 million people visit Yosemite each year. Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves and biological diversity.

Why is it important to maintain the beauty of the accounting profession? Just as we preserve our country’s beautiful national parks, it is necessary that we are proactive in preserving the beauty of experience within the accounting profession.

The nation’s first National Park was Yellowstone. After a visit there, Theodore Roosevelt announced that its beauty and wonder should be protected from loggers, developers and miners. As a result, the national park program grew to include many other areas, including Grand Teton and Yosemite.

Why is national park preservation important?

First, there are the scientific concerns. We need national parks to help us understand biology, geology and other scientific happenings. Second, these areas hold many unbelievably beautiful natural wonders that could never be justly captured by photography and descriptive writing. Third, we need to preserve our national parks in order to make sure our wildlife population is protected.

But how does this relate to accounting firms?

As we move toward New Firm ideas, what do we already know and have within our firms that need to be preserved? For one, sharing the hard-earned experience of prior firm ownership is critical. So we ask you: What are some of your ideas? What is important to preserve about your firm and the accounting profession?
