CTCPA names "New and Young Professionals to Watch"

The Connecticut Society of CPAs announced the 2013 “New and Young Professionals to Watch,” three emerging leaders age 35 or younger who have differentiated themselves in the accounting profession.

After a call for nominations in the spring, the three honorees were chosen by a panel of accounting professionals for their workplace contributions, community service and CTCPA involvement.

The 2013 “New and Young Professionals to Watch” are:

[IMGCAP(1)]Tracy McKaveney, senior manager at Mahoney Sabol & Company, LLP in Glastonbury

An active participant in CTCPA’s “It’s Just LIFE” professional programming for women, McKaveney spearheaded an initiative for women’s professional development in her firm. She serves on Saint Elizabeth Seton Church’s finance council and is a team lead for Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her grandmother. McKaveney is active with the Greater Hartford Jaycees, having served as the Jaycees Foundation vice president and treasurer, investment committee co-chair, long-range planning committee member, Traveler’s Championship Golf Tournament finance committee assistant chair and chair, and tournament chair.

[IMGCAP(2)]Amber D. Tucker, audit manager at CohnReznick LLP in Glastonbury

As an internal staff trainer at her firm and one of the New England Region WomenCan liaisons, Tucker helps recruit, retain, and promote women. She also mentors four members of the firm staff, meeting for quarterly reviews of their evaluations, goals and experiences. Tucker is also treasurer for the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, bookkeeper and treasurer for The Church of Saint Andrew in Rocky Hill, and on the board of directors of HARC, Inc.  She has served the CTCPA as a member of the New and Young Professional cabinet, on the advisory council, and as part of the board of directors, in addition to being in her second term as CTCPA audit committee chair.

[IMGCAP(3)]Michele Solomon, assurance senior manager at Marcum LLP in New Haven

Solomon leads Marcum’s Connecticut Focus Group, which fields questions and concerns from local employees to implement as improvements to the Marcum experience. She has been an active coordinator in the CTCPA’s annual CPA charity drives, leading the coat drive initiative for the New Haven and Hartford offices and serving as board treasurer for the Prudence Crandall Center and organizer of a team for the annual Connecticut Food Bank’s Walk Against Hunger in New Haven. She also regularly participates in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and Cystic Fibrosis events.
