Grant Thornton donates to Japan relief efforts

The Grant Thornton Foundation donated $101,954 to the Red Cross relief efforts for victims of the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami.

Southern California Managing Partner Joel Anik presented the check to the board of directors of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Red Cross during their board meeting last week.

“I’m proud of our Grant Thornton personnel who, in the face of tough economic times, are still willing and consider it a privilege to help others in need,” said Anik. “With the donations of other Grant Thornton member firm personnel who have donated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through the GTInet link, I am confident the entire Grant Thornton organization will make a big difference in the lives of the people of Japan.”

An original $51,954 donation by Grant Thornton employees was matched with a $50,000 donation from the foundation.

“On behalf of the American Red Cross, I would like to thank the employees of Grant Thornton for their generous contribution towards the feeding, sheltering of those affected by the earthquake and ensuing tsunami in Japan,” said Red Cross spokesperson Paul Schulz. “Your gift is making the long term recovery of thousands of people possible.”
