International accounting firm alliance promotes volunteer week

The young professionals group of Leading Edge Alliance, the second largest international professional association of independently-owned accounting and consulting firms, is kicking off its first ever Global Volunteer Week Aug. 1 with the help of Southwest CPA firm Lane Gorman Trubitt.

Young professionals from LEA firms will be donating to or volunteering with local charities of their choice.

“This is a global effort; to our knowledge, no other CPA network or alliance has hosted a worldwide volunteer effort,” said Adam Prest, chair of the LEA young professionals steering committee, in a statement. “LEA firms believe in the spirit of excellence, and this seemed like a great way to demonstrate that belief in a tangible way.”

LGT will be focusing its Volunteer Week efforts on the North Texas Food Bank, a nonprofit hunger relief network of 1,146 feeding programs throughout the state. Last year, the organization served more than 53,000 families on a monthly basis while providing access to more than 37 million meals.

Friday, July 29, LGT will organize a Jeans for Charity Day when staff can donate $5 to the food bank to wear jeans to work. The firm will also host a food drive from Aug. 1 to Sept. 2 in hope of exceeding last year’s total of 9,930 donated items.

“Hunger is a real problem, and not just for our city,” stated Erica Ratliff, chair of the LGT young professionals group steering committee “It’s a problem for the whole world. LGT is dedicated to continuing our company-wide support of this vital organization.”
