KPMG partners with 2014 Special Olympics USA Games

KPMG has signed on as founding partner of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games and presenting sponsor of the Games’ Golf Competition.

The Big Four’s renewed commitment to Special Olympics North America follows this year’s presenting sponsorship of the 2013 Golf Invitational Oct. 17-20 at the Stockton Seaview Resort in Galloway, N.J. KPMG will also support the Special Olympics Team USA Golfers attending the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles.

The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will welcome nearly 3,500 athletes to New Jersey to compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and in front of an expected 70,000 spectators. Staged throughout Mercer County, N.J., the 2014 Games celebrate the Special Olympics’ promotion of acceptance and inclusion through sports, while showcasing the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Golf Competition, for which KPMG has been a presenting sponsor since 2009, will be hosted at the Mercer Oaks Golf Club in West Windsor, N.J.

“For the past five years, KPMG has been a tremendous supporter of Special Olympics’ golf initiatives,” stated TJ Nelligan, chairman and CEO of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games.  “Our goal was to create an integrated and tiered program for KPMG that showcases the company’s increased commitment to providing sporting opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities—from the grassroots level with local office initiatives to a national platform as a Founding Partner of the 2014 USA Games and beyond, with its affiliation with Special Olympics Team USA Golfers who will compete at the 2015 World Summer Games.”

”Our expanding involvement with Special Olympics reflects KPMG’s commitment toward enhancing the lives of people of all abilities,” said Shaun Kelly, KPMG’s vice chair of operations, in a statement.  “The athletes and their families continue to be a source of inspiration for our firm and we are honored to share our spirit and support for the coming years.  Through events such as the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games and Special Olympics Golf Invitational, our volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the courage, sportsmanship and sheer enjoyment that the athletes bring each year to the games.”
