PwC tees off $100K to youth golf nonprofit

The Carolinas office of PwC is donating $100,000 to The First Tee, a nonprofit that teaches young people core values through golf.

The donation, funded by a PwC Charitable Foundation grant, will be distributed to four First Tee chapters, including First Tee of Charlotte, $35,000; First Tee of the Triangle, $17,500; First Tee of the Triad, $17,500; and First Tee of Spartanburg, $17,500. A final grant of $12,500 will go to the chapter that achieves both the highest number of participating volunteers and most hours logged by PwC volunteers with The First Tee as of Oct. 4.

In conjunction with the grant, The First Tee chapters will host several fall programs, supported and coached by PwC Carolinas office employees, including golf camps, tournaments and contests. The First Tee will also host a series of PwC employee-led, four-to-six week financial literacy classes for youth, who will have the chance to be selected to attend the 2014 Men's and Women's U.S. Open at Pinehurst with partners from PwC's Carolinas offices.

"We are very excited to provide these grants from the PwC Charitable Foundation to the four Carolinas First Tee chapters,” said Matt Kosmicki, PwC Carolinas managing partner, in a statement. “The First Tee's mission of promoting youth education aligns with PwC's national and market-wide focus on developing future leaders, and we are looking forward to building a lasting connection between our offices and these chapters. PwC has a long history of serving clients in the Carolinas market and a deep commitment to this region, and we're proud to further our dedication to this community by bringing both volunteer hours and financial support to North and South Carolina youth through an organization like The First Tee."
