The Accounting Crows rock out for kids camp

An all-CPA band rocked tax day, performing a long set of classic rock during their annual End of Season Tax Bash in a Connecticut restaurant.

The Connecticut-based Accounting Crows are: vocalist/bassist Reed Risteen, partner with BlumShapiro in West Hartford.; lead guitarist Alan Friedman, partner of Farmington-based Friedman, Kannenberg & Company; drummer Michael Fortunato, vice president of finance and administration for Orthopaedic Health Services in Old Lyme; and keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Mark Zampino, public affairs director of the Connecticut Society of CPAs in Rocky Hilllead.

The band donated their fee for the April 17 performance at Murphy & Scarletti’s to the Southington YMCA’s Camp Sloper Camp for Kids.

“Our Tax Deadline charity gig at Murphy & Scarletti’s is as traditional as the post office staying open until midnight that day and this year will mark our ‘Lucky 13th’ anniversary of the event,” stated Friedman before the gig. "We’ve donated our performance fee every year to a deserving charity, and this brings our running total to $6,500.”

The Accounting Crows have performed their ’60s, ’70s and ’80s rock staples all over the country and been featured in The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, The Hartford Courant, and CBS News’ “Eye on People.”

The band previously donated their fees to: the Americares Kosovo Refugee Fund; FoodShare; Connecticut’s Breast Cancer and Research Fund; the Connecticut Women and Disability Network, Inc.; Community Accounting Aid and Services, Inc.; the Make-A-Wish Foundation; the Wethersfield Chapter of UNICO; Our Companions Animal Sanctuary; Autism Speaks; The Mill Foundation for Kids, Inc.; and for care packages to American soldiers serving in Iraq.
