Becker awards new scholarships honoring founder

Becker Professional Education, a part of DeVry Inc. that serves the accounting, finance, project management and healthcare professions, announced a new scholarship program created in honor of the organization’s founder.

The Newton D. Becker Scholarship program will award more than $200,000 in financial assistance. This will include 20 full CPA exam review scholarships valued at $3,300 each and additional scholarships ranging from $800 to $1,600.

Newton Becker, who died earlier this year at the age of 83, founded the organization in 1957 after he himself struggled to pass the exam.

“We are pleased to pay tribute to Newt by offering this scholarship program,” said John Roselli, president of Becker Professional Education, in a statement. “The students who will be selected are a reflection of the qualities that Newt embodied – leadership, dedication and the drive for success in their careers.”

Scholarship applications can be submitted through Feb. 13, 2013, and recipients will be notified on March 27. Candidates must meet the requirements to sit for the CPA exam at the time of enrollment in Becker’s CPA exam review, demonstrate financial need and meet other requirements.

More information on that, and on Becker, is available at www.becker.com/beckerscholarship or by calling 1-877-CPA-EXAM.
