BKR International announces 2013 scholarship winners

Accounting association BKR International announced an increase in the size of its international scholarships for accounting students in 2013, from individual awards of $2,000 to $3,000.

Four of this year’s five recipients, proposed by local firms in each region and approved by the World Board, have already been announced in three of BKR International’s regions:

•    BKR Asia/Pacific: Tan Shee Ying from Penang, Malaysia
•    BKR Europe/Middle East/Africa: shared by Alin Stan and Roxanna Niculi from Bucharest, Romania
•    BKR Americas: Brittany Jones from Charleston, S.C.

The final scholarship recipient will be presented at BKR International’s Annual Worldwide Meeting in Dublin, Ireland, Oct. 19-22.

"Quality people are the pivotal element in growing a successful accounting practice,” BKR chairman Angelo Colombo said in a statement. “BKR and its member firms recognize how crucial it is to help young accountants around the world who will become our profession's future leaders… Nominees among the globe's young, future practitioners must be working towards a professional accounting qualification and demonstrate considerable initiative in their work or studies to be awarded a BKR scholarship."
