BlumShapiro races to raise money for day camp

Connecticut accounting firm BlumShapiro will host a 5K fundraising race to benefit the nation’s largest free day camp, Camp Courant, this summer.

The event will take place June 11 at the site of the Travelers Championship, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., and include a Kids Fun Run and other all-ages activities.

“The BlumShapiro 5K for Camp Courant at the Travelers Championship is dedicated to giving back to the community, and raising funds to give Hartford children the opportunity to attend Camp Courant,” said Managing Partner Carl Johnson in a statement.

BlumShapiro has sponsored the event for three consecutive years.

“The BlumShapiro 5K for Camp Courant complements the Travelers Championship’s mission of giving back to the community, and having a beneficiary as Hartford’s Camp Courant allows us to support a local organization that makes a difference,” said Nathan Grube, tournament director of the Travelers Championship.

Camp Courant, established in 1894, is one of the nation’s oldest free day camps and provides summer activities for children ages 5 to 12 at its campsite in Farmington, Conn.

“Over 1,000 Hartford children will benefit from the generosity of BlumShapiro, the Travelers Championship and the hundreds of participants at the BlumShapiro 5K for Camp Courant at the Travelers Championship,” said Elizabeth Gibbs, executive director of Camp Courant. “We are very grateful for all their generosity.”

Registration for the June 11 event is available at www.travelerschampionship.com.
