Brazil latest country to host U.S. CPA exam

The American Institute of CPA, the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy and Prometric announced that the international administration of the uniform CPA exam will be offered in Brazil starting February 2012.

The service is provided for foreign nationals and as a response to increased demand for U.S. CPA licensure abroad. In a 22 percent increase from 2009, last year more than 10,000 international candidates visited the U.S. to take the exam.

In addition to internationally-based U.S. citizens, the administration of the exam will be open to citizens and long-term residents Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, and Colombia. The exam, offered in English, is the same as the U.S.-administered version. Licensure requirements for international candidates are also the same as for those in the U.S., with educational and experience requirements mandated by the U.S. state boards of accountancy.

Brazil joins Japan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates as the most recent country providing international administration of the U.S. CPA exam. The exam will be available starting August 2011 in those countries.

In Brazil, registration for the exam will begin Nov. 1. The list of participating state boards and fee information will be available at the NASBA website.
