Buffalo students win accounting case competition

A team of four University at Buffalo School of Management seniors won the fifth annual Becker Professional Education Case Competition last week on the UB campus.

Hosted by the UB Accounting Association and sponsored by Becker Professional Education, the competition challenges students to analyze real-world accounting and finance issues. This year, teams were asked to research and present recommendations for a case about Extensible Business Reporting Language, which communicates business and financial data, to a hypothetical client.

The winning group of Bethany Doohaluk, Mark Edinger, Daniel Eisenberg and Marcelino Hernandez was chosen from eight teams of 30 students.

The four students were granted a $1,500 tuition certificate for the full Becker CPA Review course.

The finalists were judged by: Ronald J. Huefner, SUNY distinguished teaching professor emeritus of UB School of Management Department of Accounting and Law; Stephen LoVullo, partner at Lumsden & McCormick; Navdeep Parihar, associate at Goldman Sachs; and James Sabo, partner at Brock, Schechter & Polakoff.
