Stephen Tierney was honored with the 2014 Public Service Award from the California Society of CPAs for his efforts to help the homeless.
[IMGCAP(1)]The annual award recognizes a CalCPA member for services to his or her community or for governmental service in a volunteer or elected capacity.
A partner in the Tustin firm Nienow & Tierney, Tierney is a co-founder and president of Up and Running Again, a nonprofit that helps people overcome poverty by training homeless individuals to run a half marathon. The runners can apply the goal-setting skills developed through training to other aspects of their lives. Since its founding in 2009, Up and Running Again has trained 400 runners.
