Top 15 accounting, tax and advisory firm CohnReznick recently donated a total of $150,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation at its 22nd Annual Charity Gold Invitational June 10.
CohnReznick’s event, through its foundation and CohnReznick CARES initiative, has raised a combined total of more than $1.15 million for these two organizations over the past seven years.
The outing, backed by Capital One Bank as presenting sponsor and other major sponsors including Epstein, Becker & Green, P.C. and Lord Abbett, hosted more than 100 golfers and special guests at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, N.J.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides college scholarship grants, financial aid and educational counseling to children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident, while the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation aims to end the cycle of domestic violence through Margaret’s Place and other programs.
Accepting the award and speaking on behalf of SOWF were retired Vice Admiral Joe Maguire of the U.S. Navy and retired General Bryan “Doug” Brown, who also participated in the day’s activities. Currently vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton in Tampa, Fla., Maguire has served as deputy director for strategic operational planning at the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington and was a career Naval Special Warfare Officer (SEAL) retiring as Vice Admiral. Brown is president of Tier 4 Consulting and previously served as Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., which is responsible for all Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations forces. During his 40-year Army career, General Brown was involved in combat operations in Vietnam, Grenada, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
SOWF scholarship recipient Erica Smith, who lost her father seven years ago while serving and is now a college graduate planning to follow her father’s lead in also serving her country, spoke to the audience about SOWF’s impact.

Checks were presented by CohnReznick partner and co-CEO Thomas Marino and partner and foundation director Michael Cohen. Emmy Award-winning PBS anchor Steve Adubato was the evening’s master of ceremonies and conductor of a live auction.
