High school students suit up for early rounds of leadership competition

In 18 states across the country, high school students are likely mulling over where they see themselves in five years in preparation for their local Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Conference, which will include, along with mock job interviews, testing of business acumen.   

It all leads up to the national conference in Washington, D.C., May 4-8. But first they must make it past the state level.

More than 500 students in Flint, Mich., are aiming for that round when they face off in teams Jan. 17 at local Baker College.

“They’re dressed very professionally,” Amy Watts, special projects coordinator for Baker College of Flint, told the Flint Journal. “As they’re walking around the college, they’re not your typical high school students.”

BPA emphasizes finance, management, IT and computer application skills with school-customized curriculum available to its more than 51,000 members in 2,300 chapters in 23 states.
