Illinois CPA Society announces 2015-16 scholarship opportunities for students

On Thursday, The Illinois CPA Society announced that they are accepting scholarship applications for the 2015-16 academic year. Approximately 30 individual tuition and textbook scholarships are available to students who demonstrate strong academic performance and financial need.

The scholarships recognize scholastic achievement and leadership qualities in students who plan to become CPAs. Students enrolled in an Illinois college or university pursuing an accounting degree, with plans to become a CPA, are encouraged to apply.

Over the last three years, the Accounting Scholarship Program has awarded $156,000 to 78 students. Scholarships benefit students from all walks of life and attend schools of various sizes and rank across the state.

Available scholarships include:

  • Accounting Tuition Scholarship:Multiple scholarships of up to $4,000 each are available to students enrolled as a senior or graduate student.
  • Accounting Textbook Scholarship:Multiple scholarships of up to $500 each are available to students enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
  • Herman J. Neal Accounting Scholarship:Multiple scholarships of up to $4,000 each are available to African-American students enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
  • Women’s Executive Committee Advancing Women in Accounting Scholarship: Multiple scholarships of up to $4,000 each are available to high-achieving female students enrolled as a senior or graduate student.

“As I strive to reach my highest potential, this scholarship means so much more than its monetary value," said Kenneth Mason, a 2014 scholarship recipient, in a statement. "This is an example of hope and opportunity. I am on a journey to play my part in making this world a better place, and it begins with my push for scholarly achievements.”
