Zambian audit manager wins IAB Young Accountant of the Year

Global accounting magazine International Accounting Bulletin recently bestowed its “Young Accountant of the Year” award to Masuzyo Mulenga, audit and assurance manager of accounting firm network HLB International’s member firm in Zambia, HLB Reliance.

Mulenga, 25 and a Chartered Accountant affiliate member of the Association of Chartered Accountants, was honored for her leadership, relationship and team-building skills in various audit assignments. She was also recognized for her knowledge of International Financial reporting standards and local framework, and her strategic growth work for HLB International in southern and eastern Africa.

Mulenga also won the HLB Winning International Business challenge last year, an annual course designed to develop the international business skills of younger professionals, in addition to a Best Student award in Zambia in the CAT paper 3 program in December 2006.

In a statement, Mulenga said she was “greatly honored and humbled by this award. It is quite a pleasant surprise to me because I know there are many great accountants out there. Many thanks to the International Accounting Bulletin and to HLB International for honoring me in this great way. I would like to also thank Shuko Ndhlobu, my managing partner at HLB Reliance, for believing in me and for his mentorship. And many thanks to HLB Reliance team, this award is for us all. Let’s keep soaring to great heights!”
