Top 10 reasons for filing an extension

[IMGCAP(1)]This tax season has been one of the most hectic I can remember. Of course, considering the late start, it’s not a big surprise. And now that we have reached Extension Week, I thought it would be fun to share my Top 10 list of reasons for filing an extension this year. Some you may recognize; others may be new to you. Overall, it’s a great list!

#10. I’m just too busy. I’ll pick it back up on April 16th.

#9. The e-file keeps getting rejected because the client didn’t offer their child’s right SSN the first 3 times.

#8. The client calls on April 15th and asks, “What’s a portal?”

#7. I just received 25 revised 1099s for $11 each.

#6. I thought the Feds extended the tax deadline due to the last minute changes of the 2012 American Taxpayer Relief Act.

#5. I didn’t want to overwhelm the IRS with multiple clicks to the “Where’s my Refund” button.

#4. I needed to go to the hardware store to get bug spray for my software.

#3. Your client calls to ask, “I forgot to tell you about a half-million dollar transaction.  Is that a big deal?”

#2. The client responds to your inquiry for needed source docs by saying, “But I thought you had all my information in the cloud?”

#1. ?

I’ve left the #1 spot open for your reason, as I’m sure it’s the best!
