KPMG donates monument to literacy

KPMG gave new meaning to the term stacks, creating a replica of the Chicago Water Tower with 2,000 new children’s books as part of the Big Four firm’s holiday community service project and book drive Operation Bookitecture.

The nine-by-18-foot water tower, on display in the Aon Center, is only part of the total 4,200 books that will be donated in the effort. KPMG employees placed the final books atop the structure Friday, with plans to dismantle it the same day for donation to the Chicago Public School Department of Libraries, which will then distribute the literature to fourteen schools.

The project’s goal is to promote early childhood literacy in the Chicago community.
