Institute of Internal Auditors names top Certified Internal Auditor exam scores of 2014

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) announced on Tuesday the top scores on the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) exam for 2014. The scores were registered by internal auditors from the United States, but the full roster of top scores on certification exams sponsored by reflect the organization’s global reach.

The annual Institute of Internal Auditors Certification Awards recognize the top three scores achieved on the CIA examination, the highest student score on the CIA, and the top score in each of four specialty examinations: Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and Certification in Controlled Self-Assessment (CCSA).

It is their dedication to their profession and understanding of the benefits and importance of certification that has led each to achieve these honors.”

Jepson Fuller, IIA-Puget Sound, is the winner of the William S. Smith Gold Medal award, given to individuals achieving the highest score on the CIA examination. Fuller will be awarded a commemorative plaque and an all-expense-paid trip to The 2015 IIA International Conference, held in Vancouver, Canada, July 5-8.
The William S. Smith Gold Medal award is named for the IIA’s first Chairman of the board of Regents (now Professional Certifications Board) and former IIA Chairman of the Board.

Joy Larisey, IIA-Northwest Metro Chicago, is the winner of the A.J. Hans Spoel Silver Medal award, given for the achievement of the second highest score on the CIA examination. Larisey receives a complimentary registration to a national IIA conference and a commemorative plaque, which will be presented as a ceremony by her local chapter. The award is named for the IIA’s 1990-91 Chairman of the Board and longtime Chairman of the Board of Regents (now Professional Certifications Board) from 1994-2003.

Brian Lair, IIA-Wichita, is the winner of the Kurt Riedener Bronze Medal award, given for

achievement of the third highest score on the CIA examination. Lair receives a complimentary
registration to a national IIA conference and a commemorative plaque, which will be presented
by his local chapter. The award is named for former IIA global committee member and local chapter certification chairman and global certification program champion.

Michael Easterday, IIA-Central Ohio, is the winner of the Glenn Sumners Student award for
achieving the highest student score on the CIA examination. The winner is awarded a
commemorative trophy and an all-expense-paid trip to The IIA International Conference. The award is named for the longtime educator who was a great advocate for the profession, worked tirelessly for more than 25 years with students at Louisiana State University, which has generated numerous award winners.

A total of 64,769 candidates took the CIA exam last year, with an additional 2,155 taking a specialty exam. 

Those who scored the next 10 highest scores on the CIA examination will be awarded Certificates
of Excellence, and the following 50 highest examination scores will be awarded Certificates of Honor. The complete list of top scores can be found here.

• Joe Wilson, IIA-Charlotte, CFSA Highest Achievement award
• Jessica Bolding, IIA-Colorado Springs, CRMA Highest Achievement Award
• Daniele Rusconi, IIA-Italy, CCSA Highest Achievement Award

Each specialty certification award winner receives a complimentary registration to a national IIA conference and a commemorative plaque.
