New Jersey Society of CPAs provide $565K in scholarships

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA), which has supported the study of accounting in high school and college for more than five decades, will continue that tradition by awarding a record $565,000 in scholarships.

“The NJCPA is thrilled that its Scholarship Fund has become the largest professional scholarship program in the Garden State,” said Ralph Thomas, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA, in a statement. “But what’s even more important is giving students who’ve worked hard the opportunity to fulfill their potentials.”

Award recipients and their families will join Thomas for the 55th Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony at 7:00pm on Thursday, April 23, at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel in Iselin, NJ. This year’s scholarships will go to high school and college students representing almost every county in New Jersey.

The NJCPA will also begin accepting applications for its 2016 scholarship program in the fall. The NJCPA Scholarship Fund consists of:

  • The High School Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to high school seniors who plan to major in accounting, is based on academic standing, standardized test scores and an essay. These scholarships are presented over four years and are in the amount of $7,000.
  • The College Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to college juniors majoring in accounting who are entering their senior year and seniors who are entering an accounting-related graduate program, is based on recommendations, transcripts, an essay and an interview. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $5,500.
  • The Minority Scholarship Programs, which are supported by the NJCPA in conjunction with the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc., and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. These programs are open to college students at the junior and senior levels.
