Free summer program for H.S. juniors interested in accounting careers nearing registration

The Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program, designed to teach students more about college life and a career in accounting, announced that their application deadlines are approaching quickly. High school students interested in accounting careers are highly encouraged to apply.

COAP is a free five-day summer program for private and public high school students as part of the New York State Society of CPA’s (NYSSCPA) Foundation for Accounting Education’s (FAE) effort to influence and recruit youth into pursuing a career in accounting after high school.

The program will be held at 11 college campuses across New York State in June and July and is targeted to individuals that are historically underrepresented in the CPA profession.  

Over the course of the program, students will attend a curriculum of business and personal development courses and visit corporations, accounting firms, and government agencies as a way to gain exposure to the business world. Each University supplies housing, meals, and field trips, as well as intensive instruction by industry professionals.

Participants in the COAP program are also eligible to apply for a COAP College Scholarship. The scholarship provides $2,000 per year for up to five years to students studying accounting at a college or university in New York State with the goal of becoming a CPA.
