Greensboro, N.C.-based accounting firm Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co. dove into its 11th year of support for the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department’s Polar Plunge for Special Olympics North Carolina last month.
The Feb. 26 event, organized by the sheriff’s department, raised more than $50,000, with DMJ contributing $12,075.
[IMGCAP(1)]DMJ Managing Partner Mike Gillis was the event’s first “plunger” in 2000, warming the waters for subsequent colleagues to brave freezing temperatures and raise money for the Special Olympics North Carolina. DMJ Partner Dana Beeson, who is a cycling coach with the Special Olympics, was awarded the Bronze Level Presidential Service Award for her volunteerism over the years.
Special Olympics North Carolina includes competitions and training for adults and children with intellectual disabilities, serving 38,000 athletes and supporters. For more information, visit
