NYSSCPA bestows Charles Waldo Haskins awards for top CPA exam scorers

The New York State Society of CPAs recently recognized Lauren Silberman and Daniel Eric Rubin, who earned the two highest scores on the uniform CPA exam in New York state.

Silberman, assurance associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers  and New Jersey native, was recognized as the winner of the Charles Waldo Haskins Gold Award as the state’s top scorer, tallying 390 out of a possible 400. She earned her bachelor of science in accounting from Lehigh University.

Rubin, a real estate tax associate at PwC, is the winner of the Charles Waldo Haskins Silver Award, achieving 389 on the exam. He received his bachelor of business administration in accounting and his masters of accountancy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Silberman and Rubin were honored at the NYSSCPA’s May 15 gala and awards ceremony in New York City.

Haskins, considered the father of modern-day accounting, was the first NYSSCPA president and an advocate for establishing the CPA as a licensed professional in New York State (the first state to do so) and subsequently the establishment of the CPA exam.

“It’s this type of achievement by two of our promising future CPAs that we believe would make our founding president very, very proud,” stated NYSSCPA executive director Joanne S. Barry.
